How to Change Your Server's Name on the Garry's Mod Server List
Setting your desired server name is very important—everyone looking on the server list will see your server by the name you set. You can add all sorts of emojis and special characters to it too!
Doing this is very simple and we'll go over it quickly!
Step 1: Navigate to Your server.cfg File
To change the name of your server, you'll need to navigate to:
/garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg
Step 2: Find the Hostname Option
In the server.cfg file, you will see an option that looks like this:
hostname "Server hosted by Physgun.com"
This is the default hostname applied to servers.
Step 3: Set Your Desired Server Name
To set your desired server name, simply type inside the quotes!
Example:
hostname "My Very Epic Server | Candy | Movies | Events"
You can include:
- Custom text
- Emojis 🎮 🎉 ⭐
- Special characters
- Separators like | or •
- Multiple sections or tags
Step 4: Save the File
Make sure to save the server.cfg file after you're done!
Step 5: Apply the Changes
You have two options to refresh the server name:
- Restart your server (recommended)
- Type
heartbeatin the server console
That's it! Your new server name will now appear on the server list.
Tips for a Great Server Name
- Keep it clear and descriptive
- Include your gamemode or server type
